"We're on the brink of something great!" Gabriel Jesus passionately aims to clinch trophies with Arsenal, expressing his belief that they are "getting closer" after finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons.
As Mikel Arteta’s team gears up for their match against Inter Milan this Tuesday evening, they find themselves at the pinnacle of the Champions League table, having won all six of their matches so far. In addition, Arsenal boasts a seven-point advantage in the Premier League and remains active in both domestic cup competitions. Notably, Jesus stands out as the only player on the squad with previous championship experience, having secured four winners’ medals during his tenure at Manchester City.
With his current contract set to expire at the end of next season, Jesus revealed that discussions about an extension have yet to commence. However, following an almost year-long recovery from a knee injury, he affirmed his desire to stay with Arsenal, emphasizing that he has unfinished business in North London.
"My primary goal is to maintain my health," he stated. "This marks my fourth season with Arsenal, and I hope to play for at least another season and a half or two without injuries. My aspiration is to remain here—I want to extend my contract because I aim to win trophies with Arsenal. I joined this club with a clear purpose, and that remains unchanged. But of course, the situation can be different from what we idealize."
When asked if he believes Arsenal now possesses the mentality to secure trophies after their near misses in recent years, Jesus responded, "We are getting closer. Unfortunately, during the past three seasons since my arrival at Arsenal, we've finished second. Nonetheless, we're in good form—it's uplifting to see us winning games. I truly believe we have what it takes to succeed."
Arsenal is just one point away from advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League as they prepare to face an Inter team that had previously defeated them 1-0 in San Siro last season. Currently, the Serie A leaders are under the management of Cristian Chivu.
This upcoming match will mark Arsenal's fourth consecutive away game across various competitions—a first for any English top-flight team—and Arteta emphasized the necessity of avoiding additional matches by securing victory to bypass the playoff round.
"That’s crucial, and we are fully aware of its significance," Arteta noted. "Winning this match will allow us to achieve that, so let’s make it happen."
But here's where it gets interesting: Can Arsenal truly transform their near-successes into tangible victories this season? What do you think—are they equipped to break through, or will they fall short once again? Share your thoughts below!
